The Obsidian Institute’s name is inspired by the obsidian rock, a glasslike rock formed through the crystallization of cooled volcanic lava. Notable for their exceptional resilience in handling heated environments and their cutting-edge sharpness and strength, obsidians have been leveraged in ancient and primitive times as a tool or weapon to break through barriers and as a mode of artistic expression through their exquisite design.
Obsidians come in all colors and orientations through their composition of a variety of crystalline materials. With dynamic prowess, obsidians have the ability to remain high-performing and adaptable to competitive environments, while also preserving a unique cultural identity.
It is for this reason that The Obsidian Institute acknowledges our students as Obsidian Intellects, given they embody the elements of the obsidian through their profound authenticity, sustained strength and their harnessed ability to dismantle academic excellence gaps through their achievements.
